Q: What will you never forget about Timothy?
A: I knew Mr. Kilburn from when he taught in Hines Creek. I was in Jr High at the time, and I was in his Math Class. What I remember the most is the patience he had when you were having trouble with a concept, you never seen frustration and he just worked with you until you understood.

I met Tim when I worked at Father Merc in the CTS lab. Everyday he amazed me with his knowledge and skill. He was an amazing teacher and a wonderful man to work with. He was a great role model! His sense of humor was top notch, especially when handed something to read at school! He will be truly missed.

Q: How did you meet Timothy?
A: Judy and I offer our heartfelt condolences to the Kilburn family on Tim’s passing. It has been several years since I last worked with Tim but I remember his laughter and gentle manner. I was one of Tim’s many principals over the years in Fort McMurray. I enjoyed visiting Tim’s computer classes and was impressed with how he seemed to be aware when students strayed from the task at hand. He would give a gentle reminder to the student to get back on task.
A special memory I have of Tim was when the teacher class assignments were being developed. The scheduling was proven to be a challenge and so it was suggested to bring Tim into help. I was not familiar with the overall process but felt it was a try. Tim came into the office and quickly began to ask questions of what the scheduling board looked like, who was teaching what, what day, and what time. After a few minutes of getting the needed answers Tim became silent. You could see he was doing some calculations and then he then suggested a solution. Move this person here, that person here and so on. As the changes were made more discussion occurred and then all of sudden, what seemed to be unsolvable was solved.
How Tim was able to “see” the board was a mystery but it certainly showed me the many gifts Tim possessed.
May he rest in peace and be sitting with the angels.

I worked very closely with Tim when I taught Digital Arts at Holy Trinity. He was my computer lab guru and favourite visitor. I couldn’t have done my job without him being such a wiz at his. I am heartbroken to hear of his passing and saddened for his family’s great loss. What a wonderful human he was! Honoured and blessed to have known him.

I first met Tim in Fort Saskatchewan. We were all military kids and parents were stationed at Namao in Edmonton. We were those kids who were all the same age groupings. Tim and I were same age. Karen and Wendy same age. We played outside almost every day and night and weekend. Tim’s mom worked at our school Rudolph Hennig and we were pretty much inseparable. Lots of us all on one street. Lucky kids
So many stories here, houses blowing up on the street, playing in and out of houses being built. Sometimes even seeing Derek and Dennis and sometimes Rory, although they were a little older and cooler
Then transfer day comes. Tim and fam move to Cold Lake on transfer and we are separated. Junior high time. Then we are transferred to Cold Lake. As high school was just starting, I was sent ahead and got to move in with the Kilburns in Medley, I think for the first month
Gwen worked at the high school, there’s a pattern here, and thus began the next three years. Tim was outgoing and smart and a good friend. We all hung together. Tim, Jerry and me, along with some other amazing kids too. We were young and growing up and testing life
Who else would you go driving with? Tim always wanted to do stuff. Just like all of us! He and I drove together, he drove I called it out. Snowmobiling, bowling, movies, good times.
Inseparable, every day. Challenges of course and lots of states from people with Tim’s being blind. But he didn’t care. We would hang out at the radio station on base. Super CL Radio. And yes all the hits to wiggle your …. We DJ’d school dances, had house parties, met amazing kids and we managed!
I remember the first seeing eye dog. The Lions club sponsored it all. Tim was so proud, did the training before getting his new eyes. He introduced me to how people discriminated against the blind and we had lots of “conversations” to enlighten places about working dogs. Lots more here but…
We all graduated, and he and I went to U of Lethbridge. It just happened. Travelling back and forth to Cold Lake. Long drives. Breaking down of my VW station wagon in the middle of winter, Bev and Dad rescuing us, long cold drives
Military kids get breaks though and one time we got to fly, yup fly, Pinocchio back from Lethbridge. So cool
And then I left U of L for U of A and our lives started to separate. We always managed to connect on birthdays, for a while and then we drifted. But like all great friends, we could connect and catch up
We (Wendy,Karen,Tim and I) looked out for each other. We fought as brothers and sisters, but we were family. And we faced tragedy together too. Gwen and her kind heart passing, Karen passing (thank you is never enough Wendy)Mom passing and now you passing
I saw Naomi’s post recently about your cancer, and I reached out. Little did I know that your time was so close. I’m glad we connected, it was good to share and catch up and see that we both shared life in the same ways. I regret never meeting your kids and losing so much time away. But it’s ok. It’s how life rolled out for us
I shed tears of grief and joy. I thank you for being there during those amazing times. I was never great about always being in touch, but I never forgot us. I may not always get all the stories straight, but it’s what I remember of our time
I’m glad I got to experience life with you and the Kilburn clan ( and you too Bob) and Genevieve. I miss you and now pray for your peace and joy on the other side.
You made a difference in this world man. Until we meet again
Scott

Rest easy friend, The Lord has called
He asked for you by name
The halls of heaven will ring with your voice
But Merc won’t be the same.
Rest easy friend, the marking is done
The computers are quiet now
Thousands of kids are more tech savvy
Because you showed them how.
Rest easy friend, you’ve earned your place
To shine above the stars
God has called you to his home
We weren’t quite ready for you to leave ours.
Rest easy Tim, so long my friend
You’ve taught us to see so clear
You’re legacy is legendary
You’ll sorely be missed around here.
With gratitude for Tim’s friendship and deepest sympathies to the whole family
Brock and Sherry Duncan

Tim certainly solved a handful of tech problems for me during my teaching career. My first year with the district we enjoyed some tall tales around Easton's fire pit at the annual Cornfest, and of course a cocktail in hand. Tim was always smiling, always pleasant, and always willing to help. Tim was many former students' favourite, including my sister in law. He will be deeply missed here at Father Mercredi, across the district and in our community.
God Bless,
Adem & Elissa Campbell

I am so sorry for your loss. As a technical fool myself, Tim very calmly and supportively walked me through many computer issues. Even though I usually caused the issues myself, he never got impatient with me. I don't think I ever heard him get impatient with anyone and that is a testament to his character and love of people. My heart is with you during this time.

Mr. Kilburn was responsible for getting me interested in computers when he first started teaching me way back at St. Gabriel's in the mid 1990s. Because of him, I ended up turning that interest into a passion and a career.
He was an amazing teacher, and an even better person. Thank you for everything Mr. K. You are missed.
