Obituary of Wayne Gordon John Velders

Wayne Gordon John Velders, aged 74 years, of Fort McMurray, Alberta, passed away on February 5, 2023, in Fort McMurray. Wayne was born in Montreal, Quebec, on July 16, 1948, to Gordon and Asta Velders. He came to Fort McMurray in 1977 at age 29 to work for Syncrude Canada as a Process Operator and retired in 2008 as a Senior Risk Manager. He always enjoyed spending time with his family on the golf course or on a hot, sunny day on the lake water-skiing. Wayne is survived by his loving wife, Darlene of 43 years; his children: Chelsey and Cody (Sarah) Velders and his grandchildren: Mackenzie, Brody, Jersey and Logan of Fort McMurray, Alberta; Siblings: Ron, Gary (Loretta), Neil (Eleanor) and Heather (John) Guenet. Wayne is preceded in life by his parents, Gordon and Asta Velders and his youngest brother James Velders. Our family wants to send a special thank you to Stephanie Bourque and Jennifer Nielson for taking care of our dogs, shovelling the driveway, Starbucks, and meals.
