I only knew Shannon for a few years, but he was such a fantastic human and funny as fck. I'm so grateful that I got to know him. I even got play some guitar at his wedding, which was not very long ago. It was such a beautiful day. It made me love Shannon even more.
Lesson learned: Hold onto the ones you love. Be good to each other. Make lots of friends. And have lots of laughs along the way. Ya never know when it'll be all over. Big hugs for Shannon's family and friends.
Much love to my friend, Shannon.

Shannon and I were friends from Gander and spent a lot of time together with a large circle of friends in the late nineties / early 2000s. He was so loved by everyone. And was a friend to everyone. He never failed to brighten a room or make someone’s day. Such a kind soul. And so funny. I have great memories of him as do many others. I was so sad to hear of his passing. It’s felt across the country and beyond.
This first shot is from a Polar Dip we did for charity in the early 2000s. It was December and it was freezing. But we had a great time. The second shot is from around the same time and Shannon is with his good buddy Dave Hart.

Shannon you fucking prick! Who am I supposed to ask for a ride to work for when my parents steal my vehicle now? Dying is a real jerk move you know? Who's going to visit me in my office and talk about music? Who am I supposed to share my work gossip with? This is because of that stupid running joke we had going on isn't it? When work was hard to deal with some days you'd joke about offing yourself and I would jokingly say I'd join you. But you'd always tell me I had to live long enough to give the eulogy at your funeral. Which is a really awful thing to think about now you know? I thought I'd have some more time before you kicked it, I don't have anything planned yet. Did I mention it's a real jerk move dying? I'm in pieces right now and I've only known you for 3 years. You were one of my best friends at the office. I knew I could always trust you if I need anything. And now my phone screen is blurry because I can't see it through my tears that I'm shedding for you.
God, I didn't even think this was a possibility, you seemed to be fine when you picked me up to go to work yesterday. Or when we talked outside of IMC. I'm gonna fucking miss you, you jerk! I'm all torn up right now because of you. I just hope you'll still watch out for me now that you're somewhere else.
You don't know how much it meant to me when you said you'd drop everything if I called you because I was in trouble.
I'm really going to miss you. I hope you're happy where ever you are now. See you when I see you, Shannon. Hopefully in like 60 years or something.

I met Shannon as part of the Glenwood/Appleton crew. We shared an interest in Depeche Mode, the Smiths and any other music that was "dark and danceable". As Bettina mentioned, I always picture him wearing a plaid shirt, baggy jeans and circular, wire-rim glasses. Even though he was very outgoing, he had the best shy, self-depricating smile followed by a quick glance away a giggle and a sarcastic, conspiratorial one-liner. His performances in Evita and "Bonfire in July" will forever live on in our memories. He was kind, caring and friendly to everyone. Although this is something that is often said at memorials - Shannon truly was that guy. I hadn't been in touch with him in many years but I'm so pleased to hear about the wide circles of friends and family that he enjoyed in Ottawa and Fort McMurray. My deepest condolences to you all.

It was probably some point in 1989 when I met him for the first time. Gander Mall, outside Shoppers. He was introduced by a mutual friend, also from Glenwood. My impression of him was that he was a really thoughtful guy. He had a super interesting taste in music (think The Smith and Depeche Mode), he wore doc martins long long before anyone else in NL did, and he had a charm and a disarming quality that made him really easy to be around. Over the next few years, I learned how profound a thinker, and how lovingly emotional he was. It deeply saddens me that he is gone, but I am touched that his final years were so happy.

Q: What will you never forget about Shannon?
A: Shannon was my first bandmate. He forever changed my outlook on music and what it meant to me. His love of The Smiths opened my mind, not only to new music, but the idea that genres don't matter. Listen to what you love.
I will never forget how he cracked himself up mid-sentence when delivering something he thought would be funny. Sometimes his joy in the bit was better than the punchline. I can hear it now.
I hadn't seen Shannon since 2016. And before then it was many years before. Life had taken us separate ways. Passage of time didn't matter though. We reconnected like it had been days and not years. Condolences to Shannon's loving family.
Rest easy, old friend. We love you.

A professional, family man. That's how many of you will remember Shannon. A husband, father, son, colleague.
Others of us will always remember him as a creative, goofy, fun loving, empathetic teenage boy wearing plaid. In my memories I always see him wearing plaid.
In the very early 90s Shannon was a friend to many at Gander Collegiate and St Paul’s high schools. He was one of those rare kids who everyone liked. The jocks, the skeets, the nerds, the leaders, the artistic bunch… he got along with everyone. Teachers too!
I can hear him now when we would pass, saying "Hey, Bets" with his sparkly eyes and wicked grin. FYI "wicked" in Gander is a word describing something good.
His music and talent in high school is, I am confident, what a lot of us will remember most fondly about Shannon from that time.
When he and the other guys busted out the guitars and went crazy on the strings playing their original "Bonfire in July" we loved it!
And as good as it sounded on stage at G.C. for the safegrad talent show, It sounded even more "wicked" at Squrepond Park around an actual bonfire, not in July, but on May two-four weekend.
Ever since Corey called to tell me the terrible and heartbreaking news that Shannon had passed I just can't shake another memory of him performing in high school.
There was a song they wrote and sang, and if I'm recalling correctly it had lines about "the final curtain call" and "the show's too short". I'm sure I have a cassett tape somewhere of him playing and singing it with Rob and John.
At the time I thought the song was about high school coming to an end. But maybe it was actually about life through the lens of those teenage boys. It's been swirling in my head all week. The tune and those lyrics. For our dear friend Shannon, the show was indeed too short.

Q: What was one of your favorite qualities of Shannon?
A: Shannon was always Shannon; I could always rely on him and knew what to expect. He was a great friend, would stop in to say hi unexpectedly, drop by if I was sick.. he seemed to know who needed a smile. No matter what was going on between friends, he floated to each of us and kept the peace (teenage years can be so full of drama) remaining a friend to all! was always the person you could count on for showing up when plans were made, he got along with everyone and everyone loved him. He always wore a smile, and was the guy who’d have a hug for you when you couldn’t admit you needed one. Yet, he was also completely silly, fun, sweet and hopefully no one will forget his great dance moves! Shannon was a constant you could rely on, and valued people in his life highly. I remember the group of us hooligans getting up to no good, only to then then sit down to make Christmas bows and sing carols without skipping a beat! A person could always be themselves around Shannon, no matter what that entailed. He’s truly a rare find and will be missed greatly.
Deepest and sincerest condolences to all his family and friends. We were blessed to know him.

Q: What was one of your favorite qualities of Shannon?
A: Shanon was a very modest man! He was the kindest man you can ever meet! He tried helping me to get my parents here from Lebanon! He even offered to connect me with other professionals and resources that could be helpful. It was clear to me that Shanon had a genuine desire to help me and my family, and he was going above and beyond to make sure I had the information and support I needed. It is sad to see you leaving brother! You are gone but never forgotten. The team at Thickwood Barber Shop will miss you dearly! May your soul rest in peace!
