Obituary of Ray Ronald Vermillion

Ray Ronald Vermillion passed away on March 1, 2023, at the age of 24 years old. Ray will be remembered for his big heart and generosity, extending it to those that needed it most. Ray never looked down on anyone and would spend his last dollar to help the homeless people around downtown Fort McMurray. He had a true love for music and rewatching his favourite movies. Ray had many dreams for the future, including making music, numerous business plans and returning to the bush to learn the traditional ways of his ancestors. Ray was born in Fort McMurray and spent most of his life there, but he never forgot the roots of his childhood home of Fort Chipewyan. He had a true love for his culture, spending time in the bush and was a proud member of the Mikisew Cree First Nation. Friends, family, and the good memories he created were most important to Ray. He cherished spending time with the people he loved the most, never forgetting those he lost along the way. Ray is predeceased by grandparents John James and Therese Courtoreille and great-grandparents Madeline and Sammy Tuccaro. He is forever loved and cherished by his parents, Rose Vermilion and David Courtoreille, grandparents Sally Vermillion and Matthew Lepine, grandparents Ronald and Marie Harris, and his many aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. Ray will also be greatly missed by his siblings and their families: Derek (Naomi), Amanda, Terry Lynn, Melissa, Jamie (Wydell), Simone, David (Katy), Theresa, Lukas, Mark Ron, Rebecca (Donald) and his dog Marley. Donations in Ray's memory may be made to a charity of your choice. A Visitation will take place at Robert Anderson’s Funeral Services Inc., #115, 190 MacAlpine Crescent, on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, from 11:00 am–1:00 pm. A Funeral Service will take place at Mamwai Community Hall in Fort Chipewyan, Alberta, on Saturday, March 11, 2023, at 2:00 pm. Ray will be laid to rest at the Fort Chipewyan Cemetery.
