Obituary of Brian Augustine Slaney

Brian A. Slaney, aged 67 years, passed away on March 30th, 2023 in Fort McMurray, AB. Brian was born in St. Lawrence, Newfoundland to John Slaney and Leona Devereaux. He attended St. Lawrence Central High School, graduating in 1974, before attending the Burin District Vocational School in 1975, to pursue a career as a carpenter. In 1997, Brian moved his family of four from Quispamsis, NB. to Fort McMurray, AB. establishing a Home Inspection business and becoming an upstanding member of the community.

Brian most enjoyed his role as a grandfather and great-grandfather, always making time for his family. He was a prolific soccer player, as a member of the Black Horse Pub team in Fort McMurray, and previously won the 1980 National Championship with his team in Saint John, NB. Brian was an ASHI/CAHPI member, and the Knights of Columbus.

Brian is survived by his loving wife: Brenda; daughter: Ria (Mike): son: Tim (Zoe); granddaughters: Abby (Brendan) and Ella; great-grandchildren: Leo and Violet: sisters: Joan (Pat), Virginia (Bill), Rhoda (Brian), Betty (John) and Lisa; brothers: Jack (Regina), Noel (Dyan), Walter (Debbie), and Dean (Heather Ann); brothers-in-law: Jim (Theresa), Keith (Alison) and Michael (Deb); sisters-in-law: Elizabeth, Ellen, Patricia (Wayne), Bridget (John), and Roselita (Dale); also a large extended family of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He is predeceased by his parents John Slaney and Leona Devereaux, son: Brian Jr.; sister Cora, brother-in-law: Gerard and nephew: Joshua.

Memorial donations can be made to the Northern Lights Regional Health Foundation. The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to the Palliative Care Staff on the 3rd floor of the Northern Lights Regional Hospital.
