Obituary of Noel Bessey

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Noel Henry Bessey on November 8^th, 2023 after a short, but courageous battle with cancer.

Noel was born in Cape Onion, NL on September 21, 1947 and grew up in Main Brook. He studied auto mechanics in Corner Brook, NL where he worked for 10 years. While there, he met his wife Ruth and they married in 1975. In 1980, he moved back to Main Brook where he owned and operated a service station for 13 years. As a business owner, there wasn’t anyone that didn’t know Noel and everyone would be quick to share a story of his kindness, generosity and never-ending ability to make people laugh.

In 1994, Noel and his family moved to Fort McMurray, AB where he made new friends and inspired new stories.

Noel loved the outdoors and spent many hours hunting, fishing, playing hockey, or simply working in the backyard, but his greatest joy came from being a grandpa.  Noel relished the time spent with his 5 grandchildren and they will remember him as their ‘silly ol’ grandpa.

Words can never properly convey Noel’s larger than life personality, contagious laugh and tremendous heart.

Left to mourn with broken hearts and a lifetime of memories are his loving wife of 48 years, Ruth, his beloved daughters Krista (Brad) and Catherine (Kevin) and his treasured grandchildren Abigayle, Paige, Zoey, Lexi and Spencer and siblings Muriel, Edna, Catherine, Joan, Eldon, Woodrow, Carl, Melvin & Keith.

Noel is predeceased by his parents Irene (Patey) and Lawrence Bessey as well as his sister Marcella and brother Chesley.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either the Canadian Mental Health Association or the Stollery Children’s Hospital.
