Obituary of Delilah Juanita Yakichuk

Please share a memory of Delilah to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Its with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Delilah Juanita Yakichuk, 57, of Fort McMurray, AB.

Delilah was born in Moose Jaw, SK to Nita Black and Allan Griffiths on March 29, 1966.

In the 1970’s the family moved to Courtenay, BC where Delilah attended Courtenay Elementary School, Lake Trail Middle School then graduated from Vanier in 1984.

Delilah met Bob Yakichuk in 1989 and married in August of 1994. They then welcomed their only daughter Cassidy in June 1995. Bob and Delilah spent much of their time camping and fishing. If there was a fishing derby on Vancouver Island, you were sure to find them there. In 2010 Bob and Delilah decided that they were better off friends and remained that way.

In 2011 Delilah met Dean Potter where they immediately bonded over watching the Vancouver Canucks play. She also gained 2 stepchildren, Deborah, and Jacob. In 2012 Dean and Delilah moved to Fort McMurray to join Cassidy. Where they fully embraced all that the community has to offer. You could find them playing Bingo at the Legion on Sunday or yelling at the TV trying to guess the answers on Jeopardy. Occasionally, it would sound like there was a heated debate going on, but it was just Jeopardy night.

In 2013 Delilah welcomed her son-in-law Charlie into the family. Over the years Delilah and Charlie developed a close relationship that consisted of joking and bugging each other.

In 2017 Delilah welcomed her first Granddaughter Oaklyn who was her absolute pride and joy. They did absolutely everything together, they were each others world and in 2022 with open arms and a loving heart she welcomed her first Grandson Colton.

Delilah was a manager for most of her life at A&W from Campbell River to Courtenay and The Liquor Depot in Fort McMurray but in 2017 she decided she was going to stay home and help raise Oaklyn. In 2022 Delilah took a job with Sparksman driving school bus so she could still babysit Oaklyn and Colton. Sparksman quickly became her work family. She had stories daily of the silly things at work or the kids she adored on all her bus runs.

Delilah had a lot of love for her family, friends, and the community and made sure you knew it.

Delilah is survived by her spouse, Dean Potter; daughter, Cassidy Lamirante (Charlie); stepdaughter, Deborah Potter; stepson, Jacob Potter; grandchildren, Oaklyn & Colton Lamirante; brother, Dwayne Griffiths; sister, Alena Griffiths; and Parents Nita Black & Allan Griffiths.

Delilah will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
