Obituary of Harold Lush

Please share a memory of Harold to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Harold Wilson Lush, age 81, in Fort McMurray, Alberta.

Harold passed away at the Northern Lights Regional Health Center on December 13, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.

Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are: the love of his life and wife of 60-plus years, Venessa Lush (nee Davis); daughters Nadene (Jim) Baird, Luanne (Tony) Lush-Husain; brothers Tom (Lilly) Lush, Terry (Marie) Lush, Peter (Jean) Lush, Lawrence (Josie) Lush; Grandchildren Matthew (Dominique), Adam, Shane (Jessica), Michaela (Kyle) Raw, Maddison (Antonio) Lush; Great-Grandchildren Hannah, Kerrigan, Brooklyn, Gemma, Quinn, Millie, Hudson, Cooper; Sister-in-Laws Dorothy (Frank) Saunders, Maxine (Emor) King; and Brother-in-Law Chesley jr. (Christine) Davis.

Harold was predeceased by his son Michael (Jamie); his parents Clara and Gordon; Sister Sadie Proulx; Parent-in-Laws Edith & Chesley Davis; Brother-in-Laws August Davis, Vernon Davis, Glenn Davis, James King; Sister-in-Law Verna Lush; and Nephew David Lush.

Harold was born in Gambo, NL, to parents Clara and Gordon Lush on July 26, 1942.

In 1961, while dining at a local restaurant in Glovertown, he met a beautiful lady named Venessa, who would later become his wife on November 8, 1963.

Harold had a rewarding and satisfying career as a Crane Operator and it was those exceptional skills that took him and his young family to Fort McMurray in 1976.  He continued to apply his professional skills as a Crane Operator with Suncor (GCOS) for a short term and then with Syncrude up until his retirement in 2007.

First and foremost, Harold was a caring and loving husband, devoted father, an amazing poppy, and brother.  Harold’s greatest joy was spending time with his precious grandchildren who loved and adored him.

In Harold’s free time, you would find him cheering on his favorite hockey team (Edmonton Oilers), shouting and screaming at the TV while encouraging his favorite wrestler, and sharing his political views, whether solicited or not.

When his grandson Shane was playing hockey in his younger years, you need to look no further than the local hockey arena or an out-of-town arena, to find Harold cheering on and supporting his grandson.

Harold’s sense of humor, gentle touch, boisterous laughter, kind and gentle heart, will be missed but never forgotten.  His loss is immeasurable, but so is the love he left behind!

The Lush Family wish to thank the ICU Medical Staff at the Fort McMurray Northern Lights Regional Health Center for the care and support given to Harold during his hospitalization period.

In lieu of flowers, his family request that donations be made to the Salvation Army Church, 125 Elmore Drive, Fort McMurray, AB in Harold’s memory.
