Obituary of Doreen Doucette

Please share a memory of Doreen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Heaven has gained another angel. On September 8th, 2024, our mom, Theresa Doreen Doucette, passed away peacefully at the Willow Square Continuing Care Centre in Fort McMurray, AB. at the age of 88 years.

Doreen, as she preferred to be called, was born in Kippens, NL on July 21st, 1936, to William James and Mary Margaret Gabriel (nee: White). She attended St. Raymond’s School until grade 3. Being the eldest daughter, she stayed home to care for her mother who was ill and helped to care for her 5 siblings.

At the age of 17, she met her knight in shinning armour, Teddy, and they were married on June 15th, 1954. Together they had 5 children which they loved dearly. Once all the children were attending school, Doreen made the decision to attend night school to obtain her general education diploma, then went on to community college in Stephenville Crossing to enroll in dicta typing and pursue a certificate as a seamstress to teach sewing at the college.

Doreen carried on her love for sewing for many years; she could “put an arse in a cat” with her expert skills. She made wedding dresses, loved knitting, crocheting, furniture upholstery, cake decorating, gardening, was a Mary Kay representative and was even involved in the Women’s Institute in her community.

She welcomed everyone into her home with open arms to the young and old. She loved to have a chat and have a cup of tea with her company, with dessert options of her homemade bread, lassie buns, jam jams, lemon creams and her delicious carrot cake. A game of cards was at the top of her list or working endlessly into the night putting together jigsaw puzzles.

Left to mourn with loving memories are her sons: Leonard (Karen), Richard (Bernice) and Mercier (Vickie); daughters: Sharon Doucette and Mary (Paul) Gear, and her brother John (Patricia) Gabriel. Her 7 grandchildren and a large circle of family and friends.

Doreen was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Thaddeus (Teddy) Doucette; parents: William and Mary Margaret Gabriel; brothers: Melvin (Eileen) and Fintan; sisters: Loretta (Joe) Gillis and Joan Felix.

The family would like to say thank you to the amazing staff at Willow Square for the love they have shown to our mom, and to all the health care team over the years during her life journey.

A great big thank you to the amazing staff at Robert Anderson Funeral Services Inc. for their exceptional care and kindness during this time.

Following her wishes, cremation has already taken place, and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in Stephenville, NL.

As an expression of sympathy, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of one’s choice.

“Rest in Peace. Our dear mom, always remembered, always loved. You are now reunited with our dear dad, family and friends that have all gone before you.”

Celebration of Life - TBD
