Obituary of Peggy Burt

Please share a memory of Peggy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Surrounded with family by her bedside. Peggy Burt passed away on Thursday, September 26th, 2024, in Fort McMurray, Alberta at the age of 59 years.

Leaving to mourn her loss; ever caring husband, Corey; daughter, Melanie (Barry); her pride and joy, grandchildren, Lucas and Leah; loving parents, Frances (Harvey); siblings, Paul; niece, Morgan; loving sister, Paula (Scott); and small circle of in-laws, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Forever remembered by her best friends, Bernadette (Kirby) & Christine.  Peggy is predeceased by her father, Wallace; nephew, Hunter.

Everyone remembered meeting Peggy for their first time. Her sense of humour and sharp wit would leave a lasting impression. She had a passion for giving & was true a leading example of “you can’t take it with you when you go, so give it to buddy there”.

Growing up in Browns Arm Newfoundland she was a hardworking single mother for many years, who sacrificed herself for her family. She gave the absolute world to her daughter. Leaving Newfoundland on a bus to make a better life for her daughter she laid roots in Fort McMurray. Peggy worked many years with the Salvation Army as a care worker with the mentally impaired community. Her fair & laid-back attitude paired with sense of humour helped her thrive many years in this field. Peggy would later go on working as a caregiver with young families, as she was certainly “Nanny Peggy” to many. She was most famously known for her love of Halloween & Halloween parties. Peggy created many childhood memories for all.

Peggy went on to meet her loving husband Corey where they spent many weekends fishing, camping & admiring the outdoors. Creating beautiful memories together. Likely enjoying a slice of Jomaa’s and a cold Pepsi!

Peggy’s pride and joy were her grandchildren - “Nans only boy” Lucas & “Nans only girl” Leah Jane. She took comfort knowing they had so many opportunities growing up in our community. She was so proud of them. Nanny Peggy always visited with a sweet treat in hand, sometimes it was a hamster, sometimes an iPad. You would never know what she had in the Sobeys bag.

In 2021 Peggy’s health started to decline. With Corey by her side every step of the way; she spent her remaining years in & out of care fighting to maintain her health. She was a strong woman who, no matter what, did everything on her terms.

Cremation has taken place with a Celebration of her life at a later date.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Northern Lights Regional Hospital for their unwavering care, patience & compassion during Peggy’s entire stay.

“Till next time, take care of yourselves & each other. “- Jerry Springer

“No matter what happens - I love you.”
