Obituary of Theodore (Ted) John Jager

Please share a memory of Theodore (Ted) to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

We are heartbroken to announce that Theodore (Ted) John Jager passed away suddenly and unexpectedly in Fort McMurray on Monday, October 28, 2019 at the age of 66 years. Ted was born in Calgary, Alberta on May 1, 1953.

From working with his father from a young age Ted learned to build anything and everything. The beautiful home that he and his wife shared was living testimony to this. His creative mind gave way to unique designs everywhere. The back yard that he created was nothing short of amazing. Anyone who came to visit commented that the back yard belonged in an issue of Better Homes & Gardens and that the home looked like an Italian Villa.

But this was just one facet of his talents. He was a brilliant tradesperson and excelled at troubleshooting and problem solving in both the instrumentation and electrical trades. Throughout his career he worked at Suncor, Transalta, Albian Sands and finally the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. He was enjoying the challenge of his role in Traffic Controls and was looking forward to completing the implementation of the Advanced Traffic Management system. Unfortunately, he was unable to complete this goal.

As if this was not enough, Ted was a gourmet cook who enjoyed preparing unique and mouthwatering dishes. He loved entertaining friends and family in his back yard during the summer months. He also loved wine and was an active member of the Fort McMurray Opimian Society. His knowledge of wine was extraordinary, and he was always willing to share his knowledge with others at events. He was inducted into the Opimian Society Hall of fame in June of 2018. This was something of which he was extremely proud.

But more than anything Ted was the most wonderful son, brother, husband uncle and friend. The world will never be the same without him in it.

Predeceased by: his adored father, John and sister-in-law Marcella, father in law, Wilson and mother in law, Doris, who loved him like a son, and brother in law Adrian. Survived by his mother, Marion, best friend, soul mate and loving wife of 41 years, Sharleen, cherished caique parrots Phoenix & Nero & fur babies McAvity, Mitty and Tango, sister Connie (Tom) Deadman, brother, Christopher (Shauna) Jager, sisters Cindy (Maurice) Arcand, Trina (Richard) Hughes, and Sandra (Dean) Kendel. Ted also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who he adored as well as countless friends and coworkers.

A celebration of Ted’s amazing life will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at the Fort McMurray Legion beginning at 12:00 p.m. A lunch and of course wine will follow.

If friends so desire, donations in Ted’s memory may be made to the Fort McMurray SPCA.
