Doug, where do I even begin my friend?
I met you as a boy, becoming a man working my first job at McDonalds back in Newfoundland.
So full of life, so happy, so charismatic. It would have taken longer than a lifetime to forget the impact your kindness took on me and all those around you. You were so much more than a coworker; you were a friend to everyone who had the pleasure of meeting you, a mentor and someone who seen value in every person they encountered.
Fast forward nearly a decade and to my sheer excitement you walked through the door of my workplace with that same charisma and passion as I had known and loved.
We talked for almost an hour about you leaving the restaurant industry and joking the team at MCM and Culligan. You had that revitalized passion, that excitement and determination was back strong as I could ever remember.
I’m so fortunate to have joined the team at Culligan for a period. Working side by side with you had taught me that if you work hard, put your best foot forward and show up, I can achieve if I believe.
I would also like to say how much of a tragic loss this is to our community. Anyone who needed water during the flood likely met you. You were there from sun up to sun down, pushing and motivating everyone to keep doing our part. That drive was lead by the pure kindness that is the very fabric you are cut from.
To Lesa, Justin, Heather and the light of Doug’s life his beautiful granddaughter Everly; I am so sorry for your loss. While you grieve as a family, please know we are grieving a deep loss to our community with you. Thank you for sharing your husband, your father and grandfather with the world.

To many memories to list. One that sticks out is the text Doug sent me on Sunday Jan 28th at 7:42pm a pic of McDonald's Mc Rib is back and then on Tuesday the 30th a text saying I'm going to get McRibs right now they're six bucks a pop and I responded I will take 2. He was sure exited about the Mc ribs.
Thank you Doug for always caring and thinking about people. I will miss you more then you could know. I added the pic he sent me.

On Sunday Sept 22 Doug joined me and my son to cheer on a co-worker in a marathon. We spent the morning together cheering everyone on and saw a lot of ppl we knew, it was a beautiful morning. We kept commenting how nice of a day it was to be out. I feel blessed to have been able to work with Doug and be one of his Safety Committee members. I had the privilege of being partnered with him during our last meeting. Like everyone who knew him we all wish we had more time with Doug. He is very loved and will be sorely missed. Thank you for being in my life Doug.
I hope these memories of Doug make you smile like they make us smile to remember him. He is a good Soul!! May he Fly High with the Eagles!!

On the evening of July 15th, 2021, Justin and I announced to his parents, Doug and Lesa, that I, his daughter in law, Heather, was pregnant. Paw looked at the tests and quickly jumped to his feet to hug me the strongest hug he had ever given me, which was followed by a very strong handshake for Justin. The first time Paw laid eyes on his newborn Granddaughter, Everly, he looked at me and said “you did good”. With every single milestone that Everly reached, he was so happy and proud.
Every Saturday and Sunday, Paw and Maw would take Everly shopping with them and Paw would come home with the stories of her dancing down the isles and all the compliments that other shoppers and the employees would give.
After bath time, Poppy had a tradition for just the two of them, “Smell Test”! After every bath, she would run to Poppy and say “Smell Test, Poppy” and he would pick her up and say “Ohhhhhh my, you smell some pretty” to which she would reply “I gorgeous” and of course, Poppy always agreed.
Poppy worked in a lifetime of memories and traditions with Everly in just the two short years he got to spend with her.
Paw, you treated me as your daughter, and you were my home away from home, a second dad to me for 18 years. I don’t think we will ever stop missing you. Time can never make this ok. Time can never heal the pain we feel with not having you with us. I will love you and miss you forever, and I will keep your memory alive within your Granddaughter’s heart, as you will also always be in mine.
I hope your at the greatest peace! Until we see you again, we adore you, we love you, and we will always miss you.

To the Pike and Webb families. I am so sorry to hear of Doug’s sudden passing, please know that I am keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers at this difficult time. I’ve never seen Doug without a smile for everyone, he was a great person and Doug and Lesa showed such love for each other and they adored their son Justin (who knew every model of car on the road at age 3/4.) I have lots of good memories of our get togethers at Boom Siding, rest easy Doug.

Q: How did you meet Douglas?
A: I met, Doug, back in 1994 as new crew person at McDonald’s. I stayed with the company to this day. Doug, assisted in my management training. We became great co-managers and friends. Doug, was someone I never forgot even after he left Newfoundland years ago. We kept in touch each time he returned in summers. I have spoken of him often over the years and especially this week.
Lesa, Justin and family, I cannot imagine your grief at this moment. I just want to thank you for sharing Doug with us over the years. We will miss him but will try and take a piece of Doug with us in this world. To show kindness, understanding and love to all.
Rest in Peace, Doug, thank you for being a friend. We will meet again one day in that great reunion in the clouds.
